Default Durham Diocese Wills - FamilySearch

Pre-1858 only.

The searchable index is on Durham University's website:

North East Inheritance Database

And the images are on FamilySearch but browse only:
https://familysearch.org/search/collection/2358715

When you have clicked to browse, it may take a while to load completely as there are so many files. I first tried in Internet Explorer but it froze up so I switched to Opera and it worked o.k. in that I could find the reference number I needed from the Durham University index, clicked to load the file, but then all I could view was the back of the will which isn't much use, and there is nothing to click to browse through to the next or previous image. Also, the will I wanted to look at was in the 17th century, but if you want 19th century wills it looks as though you would have to wait a very long time for the list of files to load far enough for you to get at them since it starts with the 1650 ones.

So, a few problems that they need to iron out before this is much use.

I agree, it is a bit slow. would be better if they broke up the years into separate links.

I don't think all wills are there yet. I want DPRI/3/year/willnumber but they only go up to DRPA/1/

Kit the DPRI/3 refer to probate bonds and that look like they will be uploaded separately

https://familysearch.org/learn/wiki/...orical_Records)

Hopefully they'll be added soon, i've got quite a few i'm interested in.

Thanks Jay. I hope so too.

I don't think I have any DPRI/6 that Kate refers to above, so will have to wait.
