FreeReg have the following baptism:
Samuel Mortlock, baptised 2 March 1718/19, son of Richard and Mary, St John the Baptist, Denham. It seems a bit early, but Denham isn't too far from Shimpling. On FMP, I found a Samuel Mortlock who was baptised on 12 November 1733 at Ely, son of Jonothan. This date fits better, but the location doesn't! |

Looking at the public trees on Ancestry, they have the chap born in Denham as dying there, too. No spouse.
But there are a few trees who have Samuel Mortlock and wife Mary Clark (one of the children is named Abraham). These trees have a baptism date of 23 March 1732 in Glemsford, Suffolk. Parents are named as Richard Mortlock (1689-1757) and Ann Porter (1685-1773). All unsourced! |

I like the idea of Denham because that would solve a mystery. My great grandfather William Mortlock came to Burton in 1878. There is a Mortlock family in Burton who seem to be unrelated. I have looked into their history and they are from Denham. Glemsford is closer to Shimpling than Denham and the dates are better.

Have you seen this about the Mortlocks of Glemsford? There are some family trees at the end. One of them has the Samuel born in Glemsford with a query after it about Shimpling. Goodness knows where all the info came from!
http://www.mortlock.info/encyclopedi..._SudburyRD.pdf EDIT: Just seen your post about the Glemsford baptism being shaky! |

There is also a web page on the Mortlock name by Tony Mortlock. I also contributed to this many years ago. . http://web.singnet.com.sg/~tonym/mortlock.html I only mean the Glemsford link is shaky as I can't prove it. It could be correct.

Yes it's Robert Griffiths work. At least he credits me for the Shimpling part of the tree. My name is still on that tree as thanks for info, I just checked.
