Ann unknown, later William, 1802, Llantrisant

This is all I know:

Ann/e was born abt 1802 in Llantrisant, Glamorgan.

It's not that I can't find a marriage, its that there are dozens of Thomas William/Williamses marrying Ann/es!

1851 HO 107/2456 194 p.10
Castell Pentwyn, Pendoylan
Thomas William head 52 ag lab b. Pendoylan
Anne William wife 48/9 Pentyrch
Evan William son 9 scholar b. Pendoylan
Elizabeth Thomas mother-in-law 80 annuitant b Pendoylan
[have been through whole 22 pages of Pendoylan and this is the only possible family.]

1861 - possible
RG9/4042 21 p.7 4 Pendoylan Village
Thomas Williams head 62 ag lab b. Pendoylan
Ann wife 59 b. Llantrisant
Ann daur unm. 32 basket maker [blind since she was 5 years old] b Bonvilston [south of Pendoylan]
THOMAS unm. 29 ag lab b. Pendoylan
Rachel daur unm. 22 b. Pendoylan
James Williams, grandson 1 b. Pendoylan

Again, plenty of Ann/e Williams deaths to choose from!

For what it's worth,1841:

http://search.ancestry.co.uk/iexec?h...=&pid=16136479

I see Rachel is a lodger in 1851, but didn't look for Ann jr or Thomas.

There's an absolute minimum of two good matches for the Mo-in-Law, Elizabeth Thomas, in 1841 within five miles of the 1951 addy.

You have my sympathies with the Welsh research. I recently purchased four birth certs to help a lady with her tree (all t discover the mmns). Three of the four birth certs were for a child named Jones. Two of the Jones birth certs turned out to be mmn Jones as was the case with the non-Jones cert. Two mums and two dad's had exact matching names. It is so confusing, because it's impossible to remember any of the tree.

Thank you Merry, I've added that census entry as a definite possible.

This is ex's family. He's got 2 gt x 3 grandfathers called Thomas William(s) and 3 others with first name Thomas. Two of his gt x 3 grandmothers are called Ann(e) Thomas. If only they'd been more imaginative and at least chosen first names of distinction like Aneurin and Myfanwy!

I have a headache!

I've got this possible 1841 family

1841 - possible Piece: 1416/19 Folio: 008 Schedule: 037
District: Cardiff Enumeration District: 9 Pendoylan, West
Address: Bolgoed
[current map shows Bolgoed Farm as a few miles north of Pendoylan]
Thomas William 50 (c1791) Farmer YES (born in County)
Anne William 50 (c1791) YES
Margaret William 15 (c1826) YES
Mary William 15 (c1826) YES
Anne William 13 (c1828) YES
>>>>Thomas William 7 (c1834) YES

but looking at both the 1841 families and 1851 and 1861 I'm not sure that any of them match properly. I can't see what I'm doing any more. Any help gratefully received!

Well, I think the 1841 I found is the same family as the 1851 and 1861 you posted first. Mainly because Rachel is there in 1841 and 1861 and a lodger (with a Thomas family, possibly relatives?) in 1851.

Who is the main character for your ex's tree? Thomas, b early 1830s? I guess all you have that's 100% for him is a father on his marriage cert and post marriage census stuff?

Yes, Merry, Thomas is the gt x 2 grandfather and you are completely right in your guess about the information I have on him.

There is an Evan Williams birth registered Apr-Jun 1842 Cardiff vol 26 p 376 which could be Thomas and Ann's son. If it's him then the birth cert would give you Ann's maiden name / confirm it is Thomas (since mother-in-law Elizabeth Thomas may have remarried between Ann's birth and 1851, or could be Thomas's stepmother rather than Ann's mother).

Thanks KiteRunner.
