Default Confused!!

My great aunt Sarah Jane McQuade/McQuaid was born on 15 March 1868 in Jarrow, though she took off 8 years ie dob 1874 on her death.

She emigrated to the US and married Thomas Donnelly in Boston. Thomas died in 1922 but Sarah Jane died on 10 Jun 1949 (have seen her grave and obituary notice).
.........................................

Now this is the confusion bit

Found a link to U.S., Social Security Applications and Claims Index, 1936-2007

Name -Sarah Jane Donnelly
Gender - Female
Race -White
Birth Date -15 Mar 1880
Birth Place - Jarro Wotyne, United Kingdom

Father -Francis McQuaid
Mother - Bridget Shanahan

SSN 012229979

Notes
Sep 1943: Name listed as SARAH JANE DONNELLY

Household Members
Name
Age

Bridget Shanahan
Francis McQuaid
Sarah Jane Donnelly

.................................................. .....................................

Can't see a Sarah Jane McQuaid/McQuade born in Jarrow in 1880

According to my records my great aunts parents were Francis McQuade and Bridget Sands (who said she was from Cork in 1901 census but haven't found a Sands catholic family there).

I haven't found a marriage for Sarah's parents but there is one for

Francis McQuade and Bridget Sanahan on 30 May 1858 in
Desertcreight, Derry and Tyrone, Ireland (Parish Variants
Cookstown).

.................................................. .............

Now there's several discrepancies

date of birth 1868 or 1880 (day and month the same)
date of death 1943 or 1949 (if that is what this US SS entry is about)
surname of Sarah's mother - Sands or Shanahan/Sanahan

Am wondering if Sands is the right surname for Bridget and whether the marriage is the right one for my Francis.

Also what is the 1943 about? lol

I think the 1943 date would be when she claimed or applied for social security.

The online GRO birth index has MMN as Sans.

Thanks Kate

Yes I have all those births and their baptisms from original parish records except Joseph McWade in 1873 in Sunderland mmn Sands (from GRO index)

The Jacobus (James) McQuade with mmn Sullivan isn't mine though.

So you think the 1843 was probably a pension, which would make sense if her dob was 1880. I thought it might be the burial grant.

Yes, I should think a pension. And I do think it's the same person, just with wrong year of birth.

Thanks Kate

Do you also think her mother's maiden name is Shanahan as opposed to Sands - even though all the births have a variation of Sands as mmn.

I don't know. Where did you find the Francis McQuade / Bridget Sanahan marriage?

Have just gone through the GRO indexes and found a birth which could belong to me.

Birth in D qtr Newcastle upon Tyne

James McQuid - mmn Sanahan.

He could be the death in M qtr 1865 in South Shields.

I have Sarah's brother Thomas's death in J QTR 1865 in South Shields.

Can't see another James McQuade birth index record so wonder if the Sanahan is a misheard Sullivan so not mine.
