Here/resteth the earthly remains of/JOHN KERSHAW of New Church who/departed this Life the 15th Day of/ June 1847 in the 74th year of his Age. - the fact that I know this is entirely due to Lara (Sharon) on this forum who kindly went & photographed the grave and looked up inscriptions at the library, so many thanks again for that

John was also a Freemason, he joined the Tranquillity lodge at Newchurch in Rossendale and was initiated in 1804, paying subs of 2/- per annum.
