Hello, I am researching my grandad who joined the York and Lancaster Regiment in Aug 1914 from Darwen. He was gassed and eventually sent home to a hospital in Cheddon Road, Taunton. Some sort of sorting place perhaps. He must have gone to Sunderland for treatment as that's where he met my Nana. Has anyone an idea of which hosp he could have ended up?
He was discharged in Sep 1919. Just wondering if any members had researched similar. |

And I asked my new favorite search engine, Perplexity. If you click on this link you might find some places to look that you haven't tried yet.
Where is a good place to look for traces of a man who joined York and Lancaster Regiment in Aug 1914 from Darwen, Lancashire, who was gassed, sent home to a hospital in Cheddon Road, Taunton, possibly went to to Sunderland for treatment, and was discharged in September 1919? Hopefully some other heads here will have some more ideas brighter than my own. Welcome to the forum, Cathy. |

If this is JWW, there is a medal card for him. Not sure how you would access it and there's not much information (Lives of the First World War). Someone else on here will know how to access his service papers. OC |

Just to.update. I've found that my grandfather was admitted to Wharnecliffe Military Hospital in Sheffield 17/9/15. So my next step is to find out where he went from there. Small steps.
