I would imagine he was buried at sea and that the ship's captain just made a note of his name as deceased.

Sure that was all that happened with one of mine on the Gala on way to New Zealand.

I've found the death on Find My past in the British Armed Forces and Overseas Deaths and Burials and sent the info to Libby.
