John made his mark, Mary Ann signed, Mary Crisp and John Bean were witnesses. Occupation(s) - if any 1812: Licensed Victualler in Lewisham (BLack Horse) 1841: Independent means 1847: Gentleman on death cert (aren’t they all!) Addresses where they lived - and please list which censuses you have or haven't found him/her on, if applicable. St Clement Danes, London (married there, 6 children baptised there 1795-1807) c1812 Rushey Green, (between Lewisham & Catford) (JP’s Minutes book – fined by them as landlord of Black Horse, also in rates book owning 2 cottages) 1841: Ightham, Kent 1847: Rushey Green again at death Date, place and cause of death 21 Jul 1847 Rushey Green, Kent of Abscess of Lungs, ill some time. Date and place of burial / cremation. 27 Jul 1847 St Mary, Lewisham Details of will / administration of their estate - if applicable His son William James Crisp and daughter Mary Ann Whiffen (nee Crisp, later Hutson) were joint executors of the will, life interest left to his widow provided she did not remarry. Residual estate split equally between William & Mary Ann Whiffen. Memorial inscription - if any From "Monumental inscriptions in the church and Churchyard of St Mary Lewisham" by HC Kirby and LL Duncan 1889 page 12. "Sacred/to the memory of/John Crisp/many years an inhabitant/of the Parish/who departed this life/21 July 1847 aged 77 years/Also Mary Ann Crisp/wife of the above/who departed this life/12 Sep 1850 aged 78 years. The gravestone no longer exists but a small book in Lewisham library identifies it as being on the NE side of the churchyard by the path, I took a photo of the parched piece of grass under which he lies. |
