Thank you yeah I think that's Mary in the 1851. I also think that must be her parents and family too.
I'm not good with the searching on Scottish census on Ancestry I think I may have looked at the 1851 for Mary but wasn't sure at that time. Thank you. |

I think you'll find that's her in 1841, too. Jean and Jane seem to be pretty much interchangeable in Scotland, and so is
Marian(ne)/Mary Ann (in England as well). |

Yes I knew about the Jane/Jean thing I have a few Jane/Jean ancestors on my Scottish side.
Because of your help on those census I have now found her husband's second marriage and more children and her father's approximate death (1851-1861) and his wife Mary Ann's mother Jane's second marriage too. ![]() I just sometimes don't trust the Scottish census so many names and birth locations the same. |

Ooh, well done!
I don't like the Scottish censuses on Ancestry because of the awful transcriptions and the lack of images, but luckily, although Mary Ann's name seemed quite common, there were no other likely candidates in Ayrshire. |

Its nice to have another eye but if I asked on here everytime I thought I had found one of my Scottish ancestors on a census on Ancestry you'd all shoot yourselves. So the TOGG is a good avenue. ![]() |
