Default Levar burton 1977 film

In the movie roots where author alex haley traces his ancestors i believe to namibia during the slave trade he somehow figures out what his ancestors original names were in... Shona, yoruba, swahili, or some other african language... How was he able to figure this out??

I was going to reply to this, but honestly - just Google him, that's what I did and it's easier for you to read what someone else wrote than for me to write something. And it's Gambia not Namibia.
