This is my great-uncle, Lieutenant Clifford Stanley Clark, Royal Field Artillery - b 14th Feb 1898 d 30th May 1919. Clifford died of pneumonia whilst serving in the Army of occupation in Cologne, Germany. He was awarded the Military Cross on 26th July 1918.

This is his brother-in-law, Captain Edmund Walker, Cambridgeshire Regiment. Edmund was also awarded the Military Cross, in July 1917. He was awarded two bars to his MC over the course of the rest of WW1.

Keep this one and I will send you an enlargement.
That's me standing up. Ben.

After about 20 years++ of wondering we are still stuck with who Ben is! We know who Lily and Bert are, but whilst "mother" is obviously Ben's mother she isnt their mother too.

I don't know what that dress uniform is either.

Oh and I forgot, who else thinks the two Ben's don't look like the same person, yet the name and handwriting seem the same!

Merry, the badge on the collar looks like it's from one of the Staffordshire regiments. Definately looks like a Stafford knot.

Thank you for that Daphne. I had often wondered if the Wolverhampton photographer was a red herring, but now I think it can't be!!

Merry, you could try contacting the Staffordshire Regiment Museum to see if they can definately identify the uniform. I'm sure the hat badge of the chap sitting in the second photo is the Staffs Regiment badge.

I'll try that, Daphne. Thankyou.

I keep wondering why Ben was sending his photo to someone who needed to be told which man he was ("That's me standing up"). Curious unless they hasn't seen each other since he was a lot younger, perhaps?
