Yes I am hoping that there will be some sort of a clue. I think I’m beginning to get a little more understanding of Eric’s sudden change in position from manager of the Paris branch of his father’s company to Commercial Traveller. It seems that H W Caslon Ltd were in difficulties from the early 1920s onwards - there must have suddenly been a lot less money to go round.

I read this last night and thought of this thread -

"The well-to-do could neatly deal with their troublesome sons by sending them to the colonies to be gentleman farmers or estate managers".

Yes - though it sounds like the Caslons weren’t quite as well to do as they once had been so Eric’s prospective job might have been a bit more hands on than that of Gentleman Farmer.
I’ve been feeling rather sorry for poor Eric and after failing to find a burial record for him was glad to find in the entry next to his father’s that his ashes had been interred with him when he died in 1931.

I do keep wondering whether she was in some kind of institution. In my own extended family, a dead war victim turned out to be in a long stay mental hospital for over 40 years. Not sure how that helps!

Yes that is a possibility I hadn’t thought of, thankyou. Hopefully her father’s will, will have some clues. There is a lovely picture of Winifred & Eric just before they married at the Royal Ascot Fancy Dress Ball in the Daily Mirror Friday 18th June 1920. They look so young and innocent bless them - though of course Eric had served in WW1

Default Herbert Morris Will

I have Winifred’s father’s will - 20 pages long but sadly no clues about Winifred. Only 3 of his 7 children are named and none of the grandchildren.

Yes - if only people thought about future family history researchers when making wills :-)

I have a friend, born and raised in Finland. You have to leave everything to your children, your parents or yiur spouse and ALL must be named. I think this is an excellent law! (It's also how she found out that not only was her father still alive but that she had a full brother).
