WRONG! His full name is William ALBERT Brown.

Back to the drawing board.

That's a shame, but at least it's conclusively not the right person. I guess you could try the Devon one?

Yes, will try the Woolland one. I've been looking to see if you can still request a "must be" for a small checking fee, but can't seem to find that facility. If not, I'll just buckle up and send for it anyway.

I don't think you can through the GRO any more? Less sure about local reg offices as their systems vary.

Oooh, good!

Back in the day I wouldn't have had to read back this whole thread to see what we need to do next. Any chance of a résumé

Looking back through the thread, his father's name is supposed to be William Alfred Brown (post #83), not William Arthur Brown.

Ah, it's o.k., his father is William Arthur Brown on his (William Alfred)'s baptism:

Yes, Kate is right, I was wrong when I said hjs father was William Alfred.

I'm not sure what to do next. Shall I send for the death certs of George William and Wilfred in the hopes that their deaths were registered by a family member? Otherwise it's going to be another search for a Brown marriage to an unknown and the last one took 17 years.....
