Default Once bitten twice shy

After months of head scratching I finally worked out that 'ANDREW' had registered the kit of his mother as his own, once I worked that out I started to spot a few other matches I wasn't entirely happy about. It might seem obvious the usernames suggest a male and the icon is a female but who really checks?

I cannot remember whether you state your sex or if Ancestry decides it for you?

Has the manager of the data been on site regularly? If so, I would imagine that they have recognised the situation and, for their own reasons, choose not to amend it.

You choose which gender to display so some people do get it wrong.

First one is definitely the users mother but it took me months to figure it out, my best guess would be that his mum (who is in her 80's), either isn't online or didn't want to create an ancestry account so the kit was registered as him. The second is a bit too distant to make a lot of sense right now and the same is true for the shared matches too.

There used to be a fad for linking a DNA test to someone a generation or two back to get extra ThruLines, and every so often someone reinvents this idea.

I have a couple of DNA matches whose name is something like JohnMarySmith, or PJBrown (where I know J is not his second initial) but both seem to be combination of wife and husband, but only one is the DNA match and it was difficult to tell.

I also have one who changed her DNA profile to "im a scecret" but she used to use her own name and had a tree of 200+ people, so there's no secret for me!

I had one who deleted their name entirely when protools was released so there's just a blank space but I believe she forgot about having siblings in her matches.

A determined researcher can work out who I am, but as Ancestry has got my Thrulines in a complete muddle, so sib and my first common ancestor is our great great great grandfather, the beginner may need help without protools.

One of my first cousins is shown as a match for me but click on her linked tree and it’s her husbands.

I manage three kits and have them linked to my tree but I have one match with unlinked results who has 37 trees. I didn't pursue that one any further.
