Default Thoughts, anyone? Are these the same girl?

My gt x 3 grandparents, John Smoothy (also recorded as Smoothey) and his wife, Elizabeth, nee Willsher/Wiltshire had a daughter:

Eliza Smoothey [sic] daur of John & Elizabeth Smoothey baptised 11 Jan 1810, St. Mary, Chelmsford, Essex.

I can't find her after this record.

They also had a daughter who died the same year:

Burial
17 Oct 1810 • St. Mary's, Chelmsford, Essex
Mary Ann Smoothey, infant

But I can find no baptism for her. I have just begun to wonder if Eliza was renamed Mary Ann by the time of her death or whether one of the entries was misrecorded.

Any ideas?

You could buy a sub to SEAX to view the images, but the cheapest one is £10 for 24 hours so you would want to have some other stuff to look up while you're on there. Or have you already viewed the images? In which case, is there any additional info on the burial record?

I've seen the images - actually ages ago in the Essex Record Office itself. There is no further info. So I just have a daughter born and a daughter dying in the same year but 2 different names.
It's odd because I can trace all the other children of the marriage through their own marriages and deaths.
