Libby,

I am guessing you have seen the report of the inquiry in Charles Burrows Death in 1858 in the Maitland Mercury ? (Trove, again)

A witness said he was worried about his wife as they had lately been separated and they had been married for about eighteen years.

If they were separated and he died, maybe she married again, although no marriages in the NSW index are immediately obvious (like in the Manning District)

Could this be her death ?
BURROWES Mary L, f John m Margaret, 1860/2578,St George district.

Had any of her children moved to the St George area (of Sydney, not Qld)

oh, there's another one the same year
BURROWS, Mary L, f John m Mary A, Newtown 1860/1923.

Hi Libby

I was a bit slow last night - if she died in 1860, that's only 2 years after Charles and some of the children would only have been small. Perhaps she moved back to Sydney after the separation, or his death.

also a marriage

Mary L Burrowes to William Connolly 1876 Sydney

As he was a policeman, there should be some more records somewhere - State Records, Police Museum ? The Police Gazette starts in 1862, of course when you need 1858 !

There are hits in the State Records databases - Intestate Case Papers and Probate Packets. Probate was not granted until 1884 - do you want me to see if there are any clues in the Probate Packet when I go out to Kingswood ?

I can also look at the Blue Books (Returns of the Colony) microfiche indexes for the earlier 1850s - I found them most useful for tracking people in the earlier years.
