Have you viewed the image of the OPR marriage entry, and if so, does it give any information?

Hi Kite

Yes I have seen it - the exact wording is

"William White weaver and Mina Taylor, both of this parish, were married 9th Sep by Rev Jas Stewart"

There are five "irregular marriages" listed at the bottom of the page with less information, just the names of groom and bride.

When I looked back at my previous SP searches, I really have not done anything on this branch since 2004. Perhaps I should buy some more SP credits and look again for Mina's birth.

You can search for her birth on there without buying credits; you would only need the credits if you find an entry that you want to view.

The best I can narrow it to is
Surname: tai* forename: wil* female from 1792 to 1795 gets 3 hits
Surname: taylor* forename: william* female from 1792 to 1795 gets 11 hits

As soon as I add "h" to the forename, I get no hits - did they used to call girls William, nickname them Minna, and someone else decided she was Wilhelmina ? Is Wilhelmina a Scottish name ?

I think I will buy some more credits now, because this is the first time I got any hits, I don't think I ever used wildcards before to find her.

I think there is a version of the name spelt as Williamina so that would match william* but has no h in it.

Which might explain why she's recorded as William, more than once.

Will-i-am-ina rather than Wil-hel-mina with a Glasgow accent. Its hard enough to understand that bloke on the "History of Scotland" programme.
