Sorry, I don't understand this one! Who died on 13 Aug 1853? Presumably not Betty if she was born in 1747, and you have put that she died in 1789 in the thread title, so she can't be on any of those censuses?

Okay, the marriage is at Petersfield, Hampshire, 3 Sep 1763, William Cook / Betty Kelsey. (or Elizabeth according to this transcription: Petersfield Marriages C
Both of Petersfield; witnesses James Brown and Betty Collingburn. And there is a burial at Petersfield Betty Cook 13 Sep 1789, no age stated. Petersfield Burial Index |

Sorry to confuse you Kate, I picked up the wrong death date - she died 13 Sep 1789.
I will alter my first message to save confusion. The 1881 Census showing Thomas was slightly incorrect as the Thomas's age does not fit in. I've deleted it. Thank you for the other information you sent. Last edited by geniebug; 25-02-12 at 20:52. |

It looks as though Sheet was in the parish of Petersfield in those days.
This is the link to the Petersfield baptism transcriptions but it may not go back as far as you need: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb....ldBapIndex.htm |

Kate is there a bdm for Portsea Hampshire - and is the abbreviation for Hampshire - Hants or Hamps? If it is Hants - how do they work that out?

The abbreviation is Hants and my dictionary says it is short for Hantsharing which was the original name of the county.
There is some Portsea stuff on here: Knightroots Portsea etc |

Thanks so much for that Kate - I often wondered why it was Hants - I appreciate you looking it up or me. Also thanks for the Portsmouth stuff.
I'm confirming a lot of Cooks Births (tho I didnt know where they were born) - so I'm getting somewhere. |
