Default The Revd Antony (John) STOTT

Antony was supposedly born 31 Jan 1921 Eastbourne Sussex, and he died 16 June 2019 Exeter. I have not found a birth, nor found him in 1921
1939 He is in Chilton Rectory, student born 31 Jan 1922, with the Revd James Augustine STOTT.

He married Enid Patricia M ATTREE Sept q1948 Hampshire.
He was ordained 1955 St Albans for Perth Australia, and was priested 1956 Perth.

Here he is sailing to Australia, which gives his DOB

Here is his death reported in the Church Times
https://www.churchtimes.co.uk/articl.../deaths/deaths

There is an engagement announced 1944, Antony STOTT RAF, only son of the late Revd John STOTT Chilton Rectory Didcott BERKS, to Joan FRITH, that marriage does not appear to have happened, that I can find.

So I am wondering if this is him.

The only Revd John STOTT that I can find though, died well before Antony was born, and was the fater of the Revd James Augustine STOTT who was at Chilton Rectory, and died 1949
In 1911 James Augustine STOTT had a wife Maude Margaret nee BLEACKLEY, who was b c1873, which would make her about 48 when Antony was born. She is not with James in 1921 or 1939 although he says he is married and she died 2 Jan 1945
https://www.ancestry.com.au/search/c...cords/14499485

Interestingly in 1939, there is a Maude Margaret BLEACKLEY, married born 16 Jul 1872 15 Royal Cres Kensington, the same address as on the probate for Maude Margaret STOTT! So it looks like she has gone back to her maiden name.

In 1911 Revd James STOTT and Maude Margaret had 2 sons
https://www.ancestry.com.au/search/c...cords/42149073
So Antony cannot be the only son of James Augustine STOTT

The father of James Augustine STOTT, the Rev John STOTT, died 1894,
James had a brother John William STOTT, who was a chemist, not a clergyman, and had a wife in her 50s when Antony was born
https://www.ancestry.com.au/search/c...cords/18334658

Although he has a much younger wife in 1939, but he did not marry her until 1925

Can anyone see where Antony came from, and who his parents may have been??

Thanks in advance!

First observation, there are no boys of the surname Stott born in the Eastbourne district in 1921 +/- 2 years.

Not helpful to you, Chris, so apologies, but I wondered why the surname Stott seemed familiar. Then I remember that when Tenterfield Julie and I went exploring Yorkshire and Lancashire we were on the trail of Julie's Stott family in Rochdale and Oldham. I well remember climbing the steps to the church at Rochdale.

My memory was triggered by noting that the father of James Augustine Stott, John Stott, was born at Saddleworth.

Julie found a book on one branch of the Stott family.

If you Google "Antony Stott" RAF, some results will come back showing "Antony Stott, 93, who served in the RAF, and landed on D-Day+1 at Juno, watched the display with his son,..." from the 70th anniversary of D-Day. Also a photo of them. I won't post the son's name but if you look the birth up on FreeBMD, the MMN is the right one, so the Antony who you are researching did serve in the RAF in WW2. It doesn't look as though his records are available online yet though.

Edit - he is not A Stott 155081 who comes up in the London Gazette, as that was an Alan Stott.

Thanks for confirming it is the same man Kate, I will just put what I have for him, - related to James Augustine STOTT, and hopefully more about his origins will appear in the future!

Fun when we come across families in another context Elizabeth!
