Have found the marriage on the recently released Westminster records on FMP. The witnesses are Samuel Pride (who may be a serial witness) and Ann Wilson. So not a lot of help. I have also found the Licence on FMP and have sent my £10 to SoG so am now waiting impatiently for that to arrive!

I've just received the marriage Licence and it tells me absolutely nothing that I didn't know before

They both claim to be over 21yrs old and of the the Parish of Saint James Westminster. No mention of parents.

One question though. There are two signatures apart from Joshua's and the Curate's, I assume that these are witnesses. Are they likely to be friends as in a marriage or just someone totally random?

I think they might be sponsors, (I've only just started looking at licences there are bound to be others with greater knowledge who can give advice)

Thanks Jill. Must admit I'm not entirely sure what that means!

However, I can't find any connection between the witnesses/sponsors and either the bride or groom.

I'm not entirely sure either! I think they are people who confirm that the people applying for the licence are who they say they are & free to marry etc. Some of the Sussex ones on my newly acquired Sussex Marriage Index give sponsors names and their professions.
