I would expect that others are experiencing the same problems as I am, surely.
If so, there will be other protests.

I contacted Chat again.

"I understand your frustration. The Isle of Man records are part of the Worldwide membership because they are categorized as international records on Ancestry. This classification is based on how records are grouped and accessed globally."

I started typing that these records shouldn't be categorised as international records and was only a couple of minutes. When I posted my reply I discovered that the agent had cut me off!

They obviously don't like what I'm saying.

Kate, I pointed out that Card Catalogue is showing them under UK and Ireland records.

Then the PR's have been wrongly classified.

I've become really angry about this!

I asked the chat bot who had made such an irrational decision.

You could try contacting Manx National Heritage, who supplied the records to Ancestry, and make them aware of the problem.

That's a good idea, Kate.

Update - I contacted Manx National Heritage and had an exchange of emails with a very helpful chap there.

The crux of the matter is as follows:

"The agreement licenses the information to Ancestry with the autonomy to create products containing the licensed information on their platform, so in this instance Ancestry have made the records available to the “WorldWide” Membership product which is their right to do as per the agreement.

I agree that the ambiguity of having the information tagged underneath the UK in the card catalogue is unhelpful when assessing which subscription may access what, I will raise this with our account operative at Ancestry.

Unfortunately I don’t think I’ll be able to offer any support beyond that for Ancestry, however if you are interested in looking up family history information all of the records we shared with Ancestry are available on our own website https://imuseum.im utilising the advanced search you can restrict the results to just baptisms, burials and marriages, however there’s no real way to collaborate, store or review other peoples additions in the same way that ancestry does."

Anyone who wants access to the Isle of Man records will need a world-wide subscription.

RESULT!

My lovely contact at Manx National Heritage emailed again this morning.

"To let you know, I raised the issue with Ancestry to try and understand the discrepancy between the card catalogue and underlying records, they’ve responded to say that it appears to have been an error and they should in fact now be part of the UK collection. I’m sorry to have given you the run around, hopefully though you should be able to now access the Isle of Man collection as part of the UK collection, they have advised that you need to “clear your cache” which I’m assuming just means logging out and back in to ancestry or restarting the device.

If you do still have the premium subscription and have an opportunity to try it again please let me know if you’re still unable to access the records and I’ll go back to them."

I have tried again and I can now see the images. I'm so glad I persevered with this. Full marks to Manx National Heritage for sorting this out.

That's good news, Elizabeth! Glad they got it sorted out. I did think they would have more chance than we would.

Isn't it wonderful when someone not only understands the problem but does something about it!
