I still don't know the link but I have dna matches who descend from this couple. I found article from Oct 1882 by chance when mooching through the BNA website last night & I'm still grinning like an idiot.
AN ELOPEMENT FROM GAINSBOROUGH.-During the celebration of the mart a few days ago, an elopement took place from amongst the denizens of the mart-yard, which has created some little interest in the town. Mr. Tuby's rifle gallery (a well-known name in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire) stood in juxtaposition to Mrs. Walsh's steam horse roundabouts. John Walsh, the son of the proprietor of the latter, had cast amorous glances at Amelia Tuby, the daughter of the shooting gallery proprietor, a prepossessing young lady of about 20 summers, who had spent her maiden life loading guns for a penny a shot. Wearied with "the trivial round, the common task" which fell to their daily lot, Amelia and John sought distraction in the sunny paths of love. John's arguments that they twain should unite their fates at last prevailed upon the blushing Amelia, and the infatuated couple started for Hull by the last train on Friday night from Gainsborough station. On Saturday morning the irate parents of Amelia pursued the runaways, but no trace of their whereabouts has, as yet, been discovered, though, it is hoped, they are duly joined in the bonds of matrimony. Why they should seek this romantic mode of linking themselves together may be attributed to the artificial surroundings amidst which they have spent their lives-the glitter and excitement of country fairs. |

What a lovely find. The weirdest things used to be reported.
I found one that said Mr Collis had found eels in the river where there were thought be none. I dont which Mr Collis, but I attached to my 3x great grandfather. It would be nice for you if you could find a followup story for them |

Yes, definitely weird things reported in my family. A distant twiglet was driving a horse and pair with two passengers, one a lady, the other a woman, lol. He crashed it, the lady was injured and carried into a nearby hotel........which had recently been renovated to a very high standard by Messrs blah blah blah......

That's a lovely story.
And they did indeed get married, at Leeds Register Office, according to Yorkshire BMD: TUBY Amelia / WALSH John / 1882 / Leeds Registered Building / Leeds / RB/77/51 https://yorkshirebmd.org.uk/marriagesearch.php |

They had at least two children, Lily and Harry, born and baptised in Doncaster.

I haven't ordered the marriage cert as yet, there are Ancestry trees claiming John's parents as John Walsh and Mary Jones, I have the 1856 birth cert matching that but it doesn't really add up to a Mrs Walsh owning a steam engine and roundabout unless she came by some money.
John and Amelia had several children, I have dna matches via daughter Mary b1885 and son Arthur b1902 |

Received a copy of a 1972 book written by a descendant who was born and raised travelling on the shows, some details on the 2nd page led me to pin down the death of John Walsh a year before his namesake son eloped.
