Old Photo of my 4th great-grandmother
A distant relative in the UK is very confident that the image is of my ancestor born 1770, died 1844. As this predates the availability of photography, it may be a photo of a portrait. Annoyingly the eyes have been enhanced with two black dots. How can this be edited so it's more natural?

Photography was available in the 1840's.

Given that older people tend not to keep up with fashion in the same way that young people do, and the woman in the picture does not look terribly old, I would think that that is probably someone from a later generation, possibly with the same name. I'm not hugely good on fashions, but that looks 1850s, early 1860s.
I have several photographs where the eyes have been "improved" like that and would be equally interested in how to restore the image.
