Default FTM help needed please

I have FTM 2011 and am having real problems opening it and then when I get it open, it closes down when I try to add new info or edit info.
When I try to open the latest file, it comes up with this message
Family Tree Maker was not properly closed down the last time it was used. You may need to compact your last opened file to resolve any issues caused by an improper shutdown. To compact the file choose "Compact File" from the Tools menu.
I press ok and it starts opening and then I get this message
The tree is already open or invalid file type:C:\Users\oneDrive\Documents\family Tree Maker\Lyons_AutoBackup.ftm
I press ok again and it eventually opens, but then I can't edit and it keeps shutting down.
I have tried compacting the file as it suggested but this doesn't help, Obviously I don't want to lose my information. I have tried to export, which just takes forever, so that I end up giving up. Today I exported it as a Gedcom, but I don't know what I can do with it.
Can anyone help please?

I'm assuming that you have already restarted your computer and that that didn't fix things? Have you got another backup file that you could use?

I suppose you could uninstall FTM and reinstall it, making sure not to delete the backup files and the GEDCOM. Perhaps copy them to a USB stick or something to make sure they are safe.

Edit - restart your computer between the uninstall step and the reinstall step.

Whilst trying to ensure I had everything saved, before uninstalling, I found a copy of the file from October, which thankfully opened ok. Thanks for your advise .
