Merry, Is there another capital W on the page that you can compare it to? I thought I was doing well to read Innkeeper! What I am reading is ?itnesin or ?itnerin. The trouble is that he isn't consistent. Sorry I don't read Witney.

No, I don't read Witney either, but it's the only place I can think of in Oxfordshire that begins with 'Witne' and I don't think there's anywhere in Oxon that ends in 'sin' so I presumed the enumerator either couldn't read his writing, or just guessed at what was said if he was told the info.
I wasn't really expecting anyone to read what was written. I was just hoping that someone with an indepth knowledge of Oxfordshire might have a bright idea about what was meant!

The word Wife is repeated several times on the page and the 'Wi' part is identical to the beginning of this placename.

Oooh, no! lol I doubt I've ever looked at FreeREG in connection with this line.
I think Grace is the name of Elizabeth Flower's sister, but I can't access my tree at present to check. I'm pretty certain, if that's right, that I only have a baptism for Grace. The name Purnell rings a bell, but that might be because I had a teacher by that name when I was at school. (she was horrid!) I'm going to go and look at a backup tree I've got on disc. Please hold the line.........................

I'm back!
Grace was bap 1793 in Farmborough and was Elizabeth's sister. Purnell is a surname of a non relatve on a completely separate bit of my tree, so I'll forget about that for a while. Very interesting that John M was in Farmborough for this wedding as I had always fancied he never went there as he and Elizabeth didn't appear to have married in Farmborough (well, I had someone at the Somerset CRO look) Thanks for finding that Kate
