William Broomfield was the youngest son of James Broomfield and Sarah nee Pierce:
BROOMFIELD, WILLIAM GEORGE PIERCE GRO Reference: 1860 M Quarter in HAMBLEDON Volume 02A Page 117 I think the Revd Body, vicar of Wonersh, was deaf and forgetful, as William's baptism records his surname as Bloomfield: https://www.ancestry.com/imageviewer...rue&pId=888473 In 1881, William is in Esher, working for a master baker: https://www.ancestry.com/imageviewer...0?pId=21652588 But by 1891, he's back with his elderly parents in Wonersh again, working as a farm labourer: https://www.ancestry.com/imageviewer...0?pId=18406374 Sarah died in 1897, James in 1900 and both were buried in Shamley Green, originally part of the parish of Wonersh. And William disappears. Of his surviving siblings,Mary Ann married Daniel Tubbs and moved to Chertsey RD, Surrey. James Broomfield b 1855 also moved to the same area. His brother John was a gamekeeper who had moved to Worcestershire area died in 1907. So where is William? Did he move away, like his siblings? Lie about his age? Emigrate? Depending on where you were living, birthplace might be given as Shamley Green, Wonersh, Guildford or just Surrey. I'm blowed if I can find him anywhere.

Thanks Kite. I think I will get his parents' death certificates to see whether he was an informant.

Off to a good start. I ordered the death certificate, but that's not what I got. His was presumably the first entry on the page. The image was the bottom right hand corner. Not even the same shape as a death certificate. Coincidentally, his name is included, but simply because the Registrar has named the first and last entry on the page.

And Sarah's death was witnessed by a neighbour, not family.
