Dad has a Scottish branch that I look at now and then. I am stuck on one couple and was googling to see if I could find anything.
James Russell was Bailie at Dunblane in the 1700s. I've just found a book that said Mrs Russell, wife of the Bailie, gave a purse of gold sovereigns to Bonnie Prince Charlie. This isn't conclusive but it looks like the family, or at least James' wife, was a Jacobite or hedging their bets.
