Well, there was no real drama, was there? All very matter of fact and accepting, which is great for Chris, but does not make for interesting television.

Thanks to my DNA results, I have a whole new family line, but no-one will talk to me at all, even though the ‘indiscretion’ took place in 1874!

Tonight’s episode of LLF struck a chord with me. The son who was adopted and whose parents subsequently married and had two children. I worked with someone in the 70’s who had a son and he was adopted. She then married the father and had three more children. I’ve always wondered if they knew of each other.

I used to know a lady who was adopted - she knew her parents had married after her birth and she had 4 full siblings. She knew a lot about all of them and even where they lived but her mother had put a contact veto on her adoption records. We were in our late 30s or early 40s at that time. She desperately wanted to make contact with her siblings but was unsure if they even knew about her. I lost contact with her before she had decided what to do.

It seemed so cruel that she had to abide by her mothers veto, but we sort-of encouraged her to try to make contact with her now-adult siblings. This was all before DNA testing, which surely would have uncovered everything.

I worked with a man who was adopted in family - his cousins were in fact his half-siblings but he had never met them. He waited until his birth mother had died, then slowly approached the eldest half sibling and got to know him before telling him the truth. All was well and he gradually was absorbed into the (large) family. However, his youngest half sibling was very hostile, engineered a big fight and that was the end of that. The only contact he has now is a Christmas Day phone call to his eldest half sibling, when they wish each other a happy Chrstmas. So sad. After all, none of it was his fault.
