Perhaps the son of Thomas Collwell and Ann Farnell who married 16 Sep 1734 at St Saviour Southwark, both OTP - I have been trying to find something to prove it. But the will of Susannah Colwell proved 6 Mar 1767 (in the London wills) lists her four children - David Colwell, Elizabeth Colwell, Edward Farnell Colwell, and Mary Colwell. So I assume that she must be the mother of my Edward. Could Susannah be Ann? Or a second wife of Thomas's? Or did Thomas and Ann have a son who was old enough to be Edward's father?

I've just found transcriptions of a marriage between Thomas Colevill and Susanna Farnell, 3 May 1741 at Christ Church Spitalfields, Stepney. Surely this must be Edward's parents. I guess it is the same Thomas and that his first wife, Ann, was a sister or cousin of Susanna's. I can't find a parish register image to check the spelling of Thomas's surname. I have found a lot of burials for their family at a non-conformist burial ground - Deadman's Place, Union Street, Southwark - so it could be that there are no baptisms to find for Thomas's and Susanna's children.

Edit - there is an Ann Farnell baptised in 1712, daughter of Edward and Elizabeth, and a Susanna in 1714, so they were sisters.

I have many couples who would probably have married at Christchurch, Spitalfields but have never found a record. According to the LMA the marriage register for 1729-1761 is on Ancestry however they also say that it is unfit for consultation! So it seems unlikely that it has ever been digitised. I'm intrigued as to where you found a transcription, Kite?

England, Select Marriages 1538-1973 on Ancestry - supplied by FamilySearch - and England Marriages 1538-1973 on Findmypast, which I assume is also from FamilySearch.

Oh well, maybe mine didn't marry there then! Or they're so illegible that they've never been transcribed...

Thanks Kite
