Default Prerogative and Exchequer Court of York Wills new on Ancestry

As with the BT's, I only just noticed this and am off to bed in a minute. Nearly 2,500,000 records.

Oh wow. I wish I didn't have a busy day ahead.

I was researching the Porritt family from Birstall recently, a direct line. I have already downloaded three wills for this family from Birstall. I'm definitely saving myself a nice sum of money.

I shall have to go through my families and OH's too for wills. I could be very busy!

Woo!
Thank you for this, Kite! I spent over £30 in the '90s and half a day at the Borthwick on my C16th Nottinghamshire ancestors.
I never put this branch on my surviving offline tree, but it was widely researched in the nineteenth century, and someone has put up an Ancestry tree with not too many errors in it, so I might well link in.

Note - it would be wise not to search by date for early wills. The dates have understandably baffled the transcribers, and where the year is beyond them, they have transcribed it as 1000.

I like the fact that the record lists the people mentioned and their relationship to the testator if possible. I've just found one record where one of the people mentioned is "Saviour Jesus Christ"......

I've already downloaded fifteen. I'm hoping it will enable me to produce a comprehensive tree for my Porritt family and their spouses.

I'm going to busy for months.

Findmypast has an index which you could use for a preliminary search so you know who should be on Ancestry:

https://search.findmypast.co.uk/sear...ndex-1688-1858

Edit - except it looks as though the Findmypast index includes some Admons which aren't on Ancestry. You can also search the Index to Death Duty Registers (on FMP) if it's in the right time period to see whether it is an admon or a will.
