Computer and a single screen

I am trying to sort out a to do list. I plan to spend time in a real record office and will need to have a good list to work from, to maximise my time.

To prevent me drowning in paper, I have no printer at home. As my memory deteriorates, I find I have to flick between screens because I cannot remember what I was just looking at.

Q1 - How many of you use double screens to speed up the process.
Q2 - All tips on how to prioritise welcome!

(I really want to look at manorial & wills but that will eat up my time alarmimgly)
