Listening to the radio this morning and learnt that if someone dies intestate in Cornwall, the assets go to the Duchy of Cornwall. Last year, Prince Charles received £500,000 from the intestate estates. Never knew that.

I think OC mentioned it once on an Heir Hunters thread. The same applies to the Duchy of Lancaster (The Queen) I believe.

Yes, twas me!
Having been born in Lancashire and now living in Cornwall I am well aware that intestacy means my money would go to the Duchy (Prince Charles) who I reckon has enough already! But...still Cornish people don't make Wills! OC |

It is only when someone dies intestate and there are no surviving kin that this happens.

I think it has changed in my lifetime, Kate because when I was a child (we lived in Lancashire) if my father had died without making a Will, my mother would have got half DURING HER LIFETIME and the interest on the other half in order to provide for me and my brother until we were 21.
