The birth at sea was on the Arrogant. That was an Ariel. I have that.

I assume you have seen this.

Well they are definitely on the Conrad no mention of children. They are very young.

I couldn't see that anyone had a source for this information.

BTW, he wasn't aged 3 as his birth was registered in Q1 1855. Some people have birth info: 13 Jan 1855 Stonehouse, Devon, but again, no source recorded.
Just found this thread on the Ancestry message boards and it sounds plausible considering there are so many with Sulawesi Tengah, Indonesia for lost at sea etc
