Findmypast has details of the marriage licence, with a link to order a copy from the Borthwick: https://www.findmypast.co.uk/transcr...7%2F1&tab=this

Thanks, Kate.
Thanks, Kate. Yes, I have noted her father is probably Joseph White. I've noted the marriage licence too. I need to enter a few more details for her. Most trees have the wife as Lydia Bolton, whom a Joseph (probably this Lydia's husband) married at Birstall. However, I found her in the burial register shortly before Joseph's marriage to Lydia White. Yesterday I receive the will for one Joseph Fearnley, who I correctly calculated was the father of Mary Fearnley who married Jonathon Porritt, Joseph's father. Luckily Mary was already married when Joseph Fearnley died, so he mentions his daughter Mary Porritt. I'm drowning in information on this family. Edit: It's not cheap ordering from Borthwick. Thank goodness the will was for my ancestor Joseph Fearnley as I had to pay £13.50 for it. Lots of duplicate names - Joseph, Thomas John, Jonathan, Samuel, Obadiah etc. It's quite a task sorting them out! Last edited by ElizabethHerts; 26-09-24 at 14:09. |

I have returned to this and have just ordered the will for Joseph White, probably Lydia's father. He died in 1773 so unfortunately before Lydia's marriage.
I have also found mention of Joseph and Lydia Porritt from a newspaper article on FindMyPast when their grandson is laying a cornerstone for a new Congregational Chapel in Bury. The year is 1884 and it mentions that his grandparents Joseph and Lydia Porritt worshipped at this church and it also mentions that Samuel Porritt joined in 1836. Samuel, my ancestor, was dead by the middle of 1837 but no death/burial has been found. |
