If you say where he was living on the censuses, we might know where to start looking for his death. For instance, there is a James H Hinton death in 1935 in Birmingham, although the age is a few years out (80) but I don't know whether your James was likely to be in that area?

What was his occupation? I was trying to find him on the 1911 census but no success so far. If we knew what he did it might help.

Also, can you give any family members he might be with.

For most of the census information I have so far he was living in Warlingham Surrey as his wife was born in Chelsham (I'm not sure how close that is to each other). Hoping that this is the same man - He seems to be listed as a general labourer and he was born in Crux Easton, Hamsphire. I'm under the impression that the census with him listed as being born in Croakseason or ? Wiltshire are miss-types??

His children as far as I know are Job (born 1882), James (born 1880), Rose (born 1885) and Sarah (born 1889)

Not mistranscribed as Crookseason, that's what the enumerator wrote down, what he thought he heard. I have found at least 25 variations of the town name MARTOCK in the various census - some in Wales and some as far away as Yorkshire - differing local accents would give a different interpretation.

Di, do you have ancestors in Martock Somerset? My great-aunt lived there from WWII until her death and I know it really well. For the last 15 years or so she lived right next to the church!
