Default JOHN MILLOY - FMFFFF (week 3)

Name:
John Milloy
(Gaelic spelling - McIllmaluag)

Born:
c1751

Parents:
Not known

Occupation:
Farmer

Farmer in this sense is an upland Scottish small-holding - more of a croft that a farm, per se.

Married:
Mary McNiven

Lived in:
Achapharic, Killean, Argyll

Achapharic is a scattering of old stone cottages, now uninhabited and in ruins. Have photos.

Died:
January 1795

Memorial:
Headstone is located in Killean old church yard. Have photos.

'Erected in the memory of John Milloy, late farmer at Achapharic, who died in January 1795, aged 44 years, by Mary McNiven, his spouse, and Edward and Archibald Milloy, their sons, in the year 1808.'

The information in this post is taken from a family headstone. I can trace the family from John Milloy and Mary McNiven through the generations. However, I have never been able to establish where and when they were born or where they married.

Some Milloys fled to Canada when the Excise clamped down on their illicit whisky distilling. There are records of stills in Achapharic.
