Default Picker up of Sick?

https://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/co...cords/24143734

Unless I am reading this completely wrong, the occupation of Eliza Seckerson on the page linked to above is 'Former Picker Up of Sick'.

What on earth does this mean? I am sure it does not mean what, as a cat owner, I think it might.

Can anyone help please?

I think that's the rather more wholesome picker up of SILK. There's a silk filler further down the page.
