Default 1939 Register Address Search Not Working?

When I click on Advanced Search and then on the Address Tab in the 1939 Register, the Browse Borough box is not populated and neither is the County box. This means it does not find the road I want to look at. I can find it using the people search but that does not show the house numbers. The road I want to look at is Ronald Place in Cardiff C.B in Glamorganshire

Anyone else had this problem? I have tried it with IE11 and Firefox browsers.

I also had a similar problem last week when trying to search some County Baptisms and Marriages but it eventually corrected itself.

Pat

I can't see any Welsh counties in the "browse county" box, and the only country that comes up for "browse country" is England.

So, needless to say, Cardiff doesn't come up in the borough / district field. I wonder what's going on?

Edit - this is just for the "Search by Address" facility.

But if you search for a person instead, leave the name etc blank and just type Ronald in the street field, and select Cardiff C.B. for the borough / district, it does come back with 76 results, so hopefully some of those are Ronald Place. Maybe we can find a street directory or similar to cross-check the names.

I found the 1937 street directory on ancestry but it goes straight from Romilly Road W to Rookwood Street. And it doesn't seem to have one of those lists of streets listed under other street names at the beginning.

Thank you Kite. I remember a lot of the names from my childhood and knew the number of the house that was ours. Glad you found the same problem with the search that I did and it's not something with my computer. I think the address search has been working at some point as there are some posts on Rootsweb that show the results of a different search with house numbers or names. I'll look again tomorrow and contact FMP if there is no change.

Were the Rootsweb posts searching for Welsh addresses, though, Pat? England is working o.k.

How very odd. Just come back on here but tried out the search again and it now appears to be working properly with Welsh addresses and Cardiff too. This was what happened last week with County Baptisms etc. so I'll look at it tomorrow to see if it still works. Thanks for your input Kite.

Hi Kite, Could you tell me how you found this please? I have been on Ancestry and found the 1937 directory for Cardiff (Western Mail) but cannot work out how you found Ronald Place and all the people living there. I'd like to search for my paternal grandparents now but am stumped.

By the way, the address search on the 1939 register seems to still be working. Looking at Rootsweb again, I see someone else was having my problem yesterday.

Pat

Pat, I usually find it easier to browse the directories on ancestry rather than search them. So when I couldn't find Ronald Place by browsing through Cardiff, I Googled for it and found out it was in Ely, looked through the pages before the start of the street directory till I found that it said Ely came after Cardiff in the listings, then browsed to various page numbers till I found the Ely section and browsed again to find Ronald Place alphabetically in the street names.

This is the link to where Ronald Place starts:
http://interactive.ancestry.co.uk/31...d=GB0822-00309

Probably won't help with searching for your paternal grandparents unless you already know where they lived though.
