James Daw(e)s
Name - James Dawes
Date and place of birth - abt 1745, Dublin, Ireland Names of parents - unknown Date and place of baptism - unknown Details of each of his or her marriages - Susannah Gobert, 16 Sep 1765 at ChristChurch, Spitalfields, Middlesex Occupation(s) - Mariner Addresses where they lived - 1766 - Hackney Rd, Shoreditch/Bethnal Green, Middlesex 1771 - Webbs Square, Bethnal Green, Middlesex 1773 - New Inn Yard, Shoreditch, Middlesex 1775 - George Yard, Shoreditch, Bethnal Green, Middlesex Date, place and cause of death - 23 Oct 1780, Port Royal, Jamaica. Jamaica was hit by a devastating hurricane 3 Oct 1780 so I suspect that James possibly died as a result of injuries from that or yellow fever. Date and place of burial - unknown Details of will / administration of their estate - In a will written in Nov 1778 shortly after setting sail on HMS Resource James left his worldly estate and wages owed to his wife Susannah Dawes. However the admon was granted to "Susannah Dawes his natural and lawful daughter and only child She having first been sworn to administer as Susannah Dawes wife of the deceased, sole executrix and universal legatee named in will having died during the lifetime of the deceased." Admin granted 16 Oct 1781 Memorial inscription - if any I visited TNA several years ago to check the records of HMS Resource which gave me James's place and possible date of birth. Also date and place of death. The naval specialist that I spoke to at the archives suggested that James may have been pressed into service in 1778.
