There is a baptism on FreeREG but a few years too early - could they have had a son called Daniel who died before your 2xg-grandfather was born?

2 Jun 1790 St Mary's, Ditchingham - Daniel, son of Robert Cannel and Mary Cannel late Cannel.

Oh, looking at the Ditchingham burials on FamilySearch RecordSearch, I see that that Daniel was buried in 1793. Can't see a baptism for your Daniel at Ditchingham.

Thanks Kate,

Yes, I have those but as you say no baptism c.1798. It is possible that he isn't the son of Robert & Mary, they have 3 daughters who would be over 20 by then but Mary herself would only have been mid-40s so I'm thinking menopause baby.

I'm sure I have the correct family though as Robert & Mary had Susan, Mary, Abigail, Thomas, Robert, James, Lucy, Daniel & Amelia. Daniel & Mary had Emily (Amelia), Sarah Abigail, Robert, James, Lucy, Mary Ann & Thomas but the clincher is Mary Snr although buried in Ditchingham early 1841, died in Bungay late 1840 & the informant was Mary, Daniel's wife so I feel that establishes the connection.

I have had great difficulty following half of Robert's children: Susan I have, Mary & Abigail I know nothing of, Thomas I believe marries but dies childless in Ditchingham, Robert could be the one who starts a line in Essex, James & Lucy I have, Daniel (1) dies & Amelia I know nothing of.
