GRO Index search issues
Does anyone know the differece between 'Phonetically similar variations' and 'Similar sounding variations' in the GRO search?
If I search with the name Clark in mmn, neither of those options give me results including Clarke, but if use Clark in the main surname box I get loads of name variations when using phoenetic (most of which are not phonetically similar) and just Clark and Clarke when using similar.

See what you mean - it looks as though with Clark/Clarke it only gives the one name not both for mmn.

I dont get why more variables come up when a name is used in the main search box than when the same name is used in the mmn box?
I also thought phonetically similar and sounding similar meant the same thing!

I can't even get on the site anymore, despite having asked twice for a new password - it keeps inviting me to phone them. Yeah, right.
