Default DNA and trees

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this but here goes…..
I have a paid Ancstry sub with my tree and DNA.
Hubby has his DNA on Ancestry but no sub or tree so we can’t see things like common ancestors etc. Not even sure how they work out which parent each new match belongs to.

What I want to do is somehow connect his DNA to my public tree so people can contact and/ or see a connection.
If that isn’t possible, is it possible for me to copy my tree over to his DNA as well without his having a paid sub?

Libby, I can see the DNA results and matches for my husband, my daughter and my son-in-law. They link their kits to you to view. My daughter doesn't have a subscription, neither does my son-in-law, although his wife, my other daughter, does.

I go through their results and matches regularly. I'm mopping up the common ancestors now, some of which I didn't have.

My daughter also has a DNA test on Ancestry but no tree or sub. So, if she links her kit to me, how does this produce common ancestors when she has no tree? Have I misunderstood? It would be great if this works without her tree.

My daughter's DNA is linked to the tree that my other daughter owns and for which I have editing rights (a lot of my research, she has supplemented it with her husband's family).

You click on your daughter's matches, choose filter on the right near the top, then you can choose from the following:

Filter DNA matches by:
. Unviewed matches
. Common ancestor
. New 17
. Notes
. Hidden matches

Libby, your husband should make you a collaborator (or even manager) of his DNA test, and then you will be able to link his DNA test to your tree. Or, you can make your husband an editor of your tree, and then he can link his DNA test to your tree. More information on this page:
https://support.ancestry.com/s/artic...language=en_US

The allocation of matches to parent 1 or parent 2 is nothing to do with trees, just the DNA.

Thank you Elizabeth. I will ask my daughter to link her DNA to my tree and try it out.

And just to add that when you go to your dna match list your name will appear top left of the screen with a small arrow next to it, click on your name to open up & access the additional tests.
