I wonder if it's just a fluke that Robert's first wife was Mary Ann Shaw and the spare child with Susan Wilson in 1901 is Violet M Shaw?
I realise the surname Shaw is very common in Yorks. The baby is Births Dec 1900 Shaw Violet Mercia York 9d 9 and her parents are Name: Violet Mercia Shaw Gender: Female Baptism/Christening Date: 28 Oct 1900 Baptism/Christening Place: St. Maurice's, York, York, England Birth Date: Birthplace: Death Date: Name Note: Race: Father's Name: William Shaw Father's Birthplace: Father's Age: Mother's Name: Sarah Mother's Birthplace: Mother's Age: Indexing Project (Batch) Number: I02378-3 System Origin: England-EASy Source Film Number: 2093482 Reference Number: item 2 p 266 Collection: England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975 Probably a red herring, but posting it in case the details are needed later!

The address on the certificate was 4 Robinsons Yard St Maurices Road York, although J.A Fisher, mother, registers the May birth in July and gives an address as Hawarden Place Bedern York. Bedern is an area of the city rather than a village
Robert WH got married in 1927 so if this is his father- maybe he had a fling while married to Mary Ann. No wonder they told Robert WH his parents had died. Certainly Susan Wilso seems to do good works so maybe a home for fallen women is not so far off the mark. |

I found a record of a baptism on the IGI Beta site of an Emile Fisher to Robert Spink and Mary Ann Fisher for August 1893 too

As she doesn't seem to have died in Dewsbury district (for Batley) I thought I'd found her with Fisher grandparents in 1901, but I guess it's not her as they are the wrong names for Robert S Fisher's parents, so that's another minor mystery.

I looked up those addresses in 1911 but that didn't seem to help.
I can't find Mrs Mary Ann Fisher in 1911. Maybe she had 'remarried' or at least was using a different surname by then?

It's odd about Emily Fisher (1893). There's only one birth reg and then the bap for the dau of Robert S and Mary A. In 1901 there is Emily b Batley, which is correct and she is supposedly with grandparents who are called Fisher, but they are not Robert's parents. Move forward to 1911 and at 5 Crown St Batley there's Emily Fisher b Batley aged 17 and she seems to be Robert's daughter, as she is with her mother, Mary Ann Fisher aged 41 b York (that's different to 1901) says she is married 18 years but no husband, and three children born, two are dec'd.
Anyway as yet, Jane Ann Simpson is being illusive. Maybe she will stay that way? I've tried those addresses in 1901 as well now and on the historic directories site. Still no joy.

OK so Emily Fisher is in Batley with her great uncle and his wife in 1901, but the census has them recorded as her grandparents.
Frank Fisher aged 57 painter and decorator b Yorks (somewhere I can't read) must surely be the same person as on the 1871 census: Frank Fisher aged 27 painter b Yorkshire Batley In 1871 Frank is in Batley in the household of his brother James Fisher. James Fisher is Robert S Fisher's father.
