Have now got Dorothy Alice Jones' birth cert. That also has the same name as the father as her younger sister.

I was wondering how Edward acquired his interest in Abergafren Farm.In the latter censuses it is occupied by Pierces, with Robert Pierce marying a Lizzie Jones in 1910.I thought perhaps he had inherited, but I can't find an appropriate record.
Lizzie Jones is given as born 1885 Borthlas,Merionethshire which appears to me to be a unique property near Llandecwyn Station rather than a town(www.old-maps.co.uk- coordinates 261881-337591).However tracing her and the property back to 1891(ref 4644 75 1) she appears to be the daughter of a Henry Jones and no sign of any Edwards.

the speculation re Henry Jones and the Edward with him in 1881(ref 1554 18 29).Perhaps Edward H of 1911 is Edward Henry not Edward Humphrey(there is a possible record that Edward Humphrey, registered born in Dolgellau district, dies aged 18)
Perhaps the following two records could explain a lot of your difficulty in locating people and possibly more: 1871 4685 87 62 (Henry,in Sheffield, given as born Warwickshire, with daughter Sarah(and wife Sarah not Hannah) 1891 2140 128 7 (Henry, occupation as 1881,born Warwickshire,in prison, widowed) a friend sent these to be, can I have your opinions please Zoe

Did Edward own the farm or rent it, Zoe? If he rented it then I expect the name Jones is just a coincidence since it is such a common name.
Your Edward did call himself Edward Humphrey, as that was what you found on his children's birth certificates, so I don't understand why your friend is saying he was Edward Henry? The Edward Humphrey born in Dolgellau is a different person from your Edward although he has the same name. This is the family your friend has picked out on the 1871 census in Sheffield: Henry Jones Head Mar 24 Sawyer Warwickshire Wolverhampton Sarah Do Wife Mar 22 Derbys Matlock Sarah Do Daur 1 Yorks Sheffield I can't see any reason to think this is your Edward's father, or the father of the Edward on the 1881 census. We know for sure that this isn't the Sarah on the 1881 census because her death cert has the surname Williams and so we know she is the Sarah that we already found on the 1871 census with Hannah. This Henry has a different occupation, a different birthplace and a different family. Then the Henry in 1891 is a widower age 43, bricklayer's labourer, born Warwickshire Soho, in prison in Staffordshire. Again, not much reason to think this is the same Henry as either of the others, although of course he could be. I don't know where Soho Warwickshire is. |

Agreed - it's near to Handsworth, Sandwell and Winson Green. It's where Boulton and Watt had their enormous factory.
