Default Ancestry account of a deceased person

My sister died recently and I am unsure what to do about her Ancestry account.

I manage her DNA results but she had her own account which was dormant and she had never paid for a subscription. I should be able to log in to her account with the help of her husband but I'm not sure what to do then!

Does anyone have any experience of this situation?

Sorry to hear about your sister, Sue.

There is a feature that can be accessed via Account settings - Legacy contact. "Choose who inherits your Ancestry account." Here is the help page with information about it:
https://support.ancestry.co.uk/s/art...Legacy-Contact

It explains on the same page what to do if you are the legacy contact for someone who has died. So you and your brother-in-law should go onto your sister's account and fill in the legacy contact info, then follow the instructions (i.e. contact Ancestry and they will help you to take over the account.)

Thanks, Kite. I should have found that myself but to honest I've not been thinking too straight lately!

Sue, my condolences on the loss of your sister. It's very hard to deal with all the practicalities when your head is spinning. xx

Thanks Elizabeth. It all happened very quickly and unexpectedly so, yes our heads are definitely spinning.

Deepest sympathy Sue to you and your family. Of course your head is in a spin. There is always so much to do and so much to think about, all at a time when you feel least able to cope.
