Name - "official" name and what they were known as

William Yates

Date and place of birth

abt 1830 in Brassington, Derbyshire

Thomas Yates and Ann Tomlinson

For some reason he seems to have been baptised with the name of Joseph. I have seen the original PR's and it does say Joseph not William. It is on the IGI as is his siblings, batch C048381

Unmarried relationship with Sarah Harrison
No marriages have been found. The Ashbourne registrar has also checked. I have checked the PR’s as well.

Occupation(s) - if any

Malsters Labourer and Farm Labourer

1841, 1851 and 1861 living with his parents in Brassington, Derbyshire
1871, Hollington, Derbyshire
1881, staying in the household of James Munton of house no.15, China Factory Yard, St Alkmunds, Derby (wife and family at home in Hollington)
1891, widowed and living alone at 42 Hope Street, St Peter, Derby
1901, 40 Goodman St, Burton on Trent, Staffordshire with his step daughter Mary Wheeldon
1909, The Workhouse, Belvedere Road, Burton on Trent, Staffordshire

(My grandfather remembered visiting him in there - he said he was a scary man with white hair who saw things coming out of the walls. Grandfather was 5 years old when William died.)
