Default Samuel Henry Oliver Sloman, NSW MF

Name – Samuel Henry Oliver Sloman known as “Oliver”
Date and place of birth: 30 August, 1884 Dundee, NSW Australia
Names of parents: Charles Sloman (Somerset/Devon) and Emma Ann Pogson (Lancashire/Yorkshire)
Oliver was born two months after his father died prematurely, aged 37; his mother married Sam Ward when Oliver was two, Sam was the only father he knew. Emma, his mother, died in 1893 when he was around ten. He then had four older siblings and four younger half siblings. His older sisters, Alice and Belle, 15 and 13, reared the younger ones. Sam remarried another widow in 1905, when Oliver was 21, Sarah Alt nee Lett, she was his future mother in law.
Marriage: 3 March 1908 Christ Church of England, Dundee NSW to Elizabeth Ivy Alt
Occupations: Aged 13 - Mail Run from Dundee Rail Station to Post Office Store 5 miles away on push bike; then general farm hand and shearer; bought “Mossvale” sheep property 10 mile east of Deepwater around 1908 and married; sold 10 Mile because of dingoes and bought “Equador” Sheep Property at Pyes Creek in early 1920s, which he worked daylight to dusk for around 40 years. At age 80 he sold property and moved to Logan Street Tenterfield for nearly 10 years, dying two months short of his 90th Birthday.
