Yes, you are right. I knew it was one of the off-Islands. It was a BBC search but it overflowed onto another site, because I was never on a BBC site. OC |

I did a bit of digging after I saw an irate post on FB written by the cousin mentioned in the articles. So I now know who the mum and dad are and how they are connected to the aunt and cousin.
If anyone wants the names etc just pm me.

Having had a look at some stuff on Facebook, it does seem that the birth was never registered, and that the mother didn't claim child benefit for her.

OH is British, has a birth certificate but was never registered. We just have to make sure his passport is always up to date. People can still fall through the cracks, sometimes through no fault of their own.

Trouble is……hers is probably correct. Her brother’s is the pack of lies his parents put down. He only found it accidentally….lol In Australia, you need a birth certificate to start school, but when my son started school, I point blank refused to open the cupboard where the cert was, due to a massive huntsman in there. As the principal knew us well and his three older sisters, he knew David was the right age to start so just enrolled him. There was no way I was going anywhere near that spider!

My adoptive grandmother is said to have never been registered but appears as a 2 year old on the 1911 census, the surname she is recorded under only appears once in the bmd and that's on her marriage. I'm guessing she was illegitimate and either not registered or registered under a different name.
More common in my experience is a change of name though I have a dna match with a grandfather who seems to have ben born in one name which was changed when he was still a child and then changed yet again when in his early 20's. The match is a woman in her 80's and isn't responding to messages but I'm sure she must have read the first one. Soon after I sent the first message her tree vanished though it only went as far as the name changing grandparent anyway and used the last name he was known by. Unfortunately she is the biggest match of all in one of my mystery groups but it's a match on MH so it's impossible to predict how inflated the shared cM might be or check how much she shares with the others as they are all on Ancestry. |

Glen, did you ever get this cert?
ALEXANDER, PEGGY AGNES - GRO Reference: 1909 M Quarter in MANCHESTER Volume 08D Page 246 I was thinking, if you hadn't, would it be worth the £3 for a digital copy, just to see what it says?

I'd forgotten all about the digital option as it was such a long time time ago since I was looking at it. I've been that wrapped up in my dna results and losing my Goulson ancestors it hadn't crossed my mind for ages.
