Does the 1861 census say whether Elizabeth was a widow?

Yes it does. Elizabeth is in an asylum on the 61 census and she is listed as just E.B. The reason I know this is her is because she is still there on the 71 census and on that census she is listed as Elizabeth Bowen.
Both the 61 and 71 census say she is a widow. The 71 census also states she is 'insane'.

I didnt know they had an FHS. I am happy to contact them but would they be able to help do you think with having no idea when/if Henry died sometime between 1851 and 1861?
I appreciate your time looking at this man

I think it's more of a history group, but it's worth a try.
Initially, I though that Henry might have been a trawlerman because of the Hull connection. However, I now think he wasn't, given that we found a 'sloop man' in the family and that Monkwearmouth was more associated with the coal trade. If there were ship losses at Monkwearmouth, then the local group may know about it. |

I have done a search for the group and it keeps bringing up Berkshire FHS; is that what you got too Shona?
I've taken a look at Elizabeth Nicholson and her parents and they seem to be a big mariner family. I am clutching at straws trying to look at all angles to what might have become of Henry. I might have to try and see what became of the two siblings, Frederick & Joseph.
