No, but some seem to have done:
Deaths Sep 1837 Porritt Alice Manchester 20 368 Deaths Jun 1838 Porritt Samuel Manchester 20 396 Probably both children? Have you found the parents on a census anytime?

Merrry, it's so odd! Thanks for the deaths - I had noted them, but as both parents have the same names it's not clear if they are the children or not. I think I shall have to order some certificates.
There are a few Porritts in Lancashire, but most of them seem to be missing from the censuses. I can't find Mary Porritt on the 1841 census, and she must have been alive! Also I believe her sister Ann to be alive as I have a probable marriage for her somewhere. I have been using FMP and they are usually quite good. I don't know if Ancestry are any better. Charles Alexander and Mary Porritt's marriage certificate gives her father as "Samuel Porritt Mill Wright". It doesn't indicate whether he is alive or dead. Charles' father was dead but it does not say so. From the occupation it looks pretty certain I have the correct Samuel Porritt. (If I don't reply for a while I'm not ignoring you although my light will be on! I am on a wedding organisation mission (for my younger daughter) and I'm going to a bridal shop to look at bridesmaids' dresses and make an appointment for the bridesmaids.) |

It's probably of no consequence, but I was imagining Samuel Porritt, millwright as doing what my millwrights did in Somerset - repairing flour mills etc. However, if you have a millwright in manchester, might he be doing things with milling equipment in cotton mills and therefore his occ in any other record (I was just looking at Historical Directories and the online newspapers) might appear to be different to what might be expected?
Another thing, whether those deaths are for the children or parents, or one of each, the other two people should also appear somewhere on the BMDs shouldn't they? (unless a death wasn't registered, which I think did happen sometimes with children in particular.)

Merry, you would expect to find SOME of them, wouldn't you!
The trouble with the name PORRITT is that it is ripe for lots of permutations - Perritt, Parrot, etc, depending on how it is heard/pronounced! I found the Manchester Cathedral transcriptions on Lancashre OPCs very tantalising - just one year! The others would help! I feel a visit coming on.... |

I think there's a one-name study called P*rr*t which advertises in the family history magazines, isn't there?
